SEMI-FINAL - CUP - SUMMER LEAGUE - FOOTBALL
The Advertising Cup is always special 🪄
And the semi-finals certainly didn't disappoint 🥳
Ogilvy UK vs. McCann London
Ogilvy primed for revenge after a narrow defeat between the sides earlier in the season.
McCann, confident, and for good reason. 2nd in the advertising league and more importantly.
In the words of Wynn, TS7 returns 🙏
As expected, he grabbed the first goal moments into the game with a composed finish with the outside of his right boot.
Like many that have come before, we’ve seen this before.
It’s what we've come to expect.
But this is a different Ogilvy side.
Revitalised, even.
Stride has been working tirelessly behind the scenes and it shows.
Ogilvy looked to be going into the break with a 2 goal lead but a quick succession of goals from McCann made it all square. Most likely scored by TS7, obviously 🫣
Ogilvy kept drawing ahead and keeper Sai understood the importance of this, slowing the pace at every opportunity.
Prior to the game, captain, Stride outlined the importance of Tope in the middle and boy was he right.
He dominated the middle of the park with his physical prowess, which proved too strong for McCann.
Ogilvy appeared to want it more and in the end, were deserved winners.
Ogilvy UK 17-15 McCann London
Wieden + Kennedy vs. Lucky Generals
With both Pym and Taylor on holiday, both sides were without their usual captains 🏝
Naylor and Ritter took the stage.
Who could get the job done?
Not only did captain Taylor swan off on holiday at a critical stage of the tournament, but he also took the kits with him.
Flip flops and Lucky Generals kit.
Watch out Egypt 🩴
Despite this, Lucky Generals were off to a flyer.
After 2 early goals the pressure was on and without the organisation of Pym, the league leaders looked in trouble.
Fear not. Wieden’s managed to shake this off and work their way back into the tie.
5-5 at the break.
Ritter knew a poor outcome here could be detrimental to his career.
With the fear of being on tea duty haunting his every move, he gathered the players and channelled his inner Pym.
It’s the team talk they needed.
They came out of the break firing and asserted their dominance, establishing a pivotal lead.
The game brought a debut for Alex D. and what a performance he had. Other than a poor touch that cost his side a penalty 👀
It went from bad to worse as Lucky Generals lost their 5th player.
A crucial moment and despite the ref helping out, Lucky Generals dropped their heads and began to look leggy.
Wieden’s continued to uphold the high levels we've come to expect and saw the game out in style.
Adjei noted that whilst they were vulnerable at the back they unlocked new levels of creativity that was the difference on the night 👨🎨
Wieden + Kennedy 12-7 Lucky Generals
What a final we have.
Wieden + Kennedy going for the double and back-to-back cup wins.
Ogilvy UK, chasing their first piece of silverware.
It’s all to play for 🏆
Until next time,
Secta.
