MW2 - AL - FOOTBALL
This week we saw the 2nd fixture of the Autumn Advertising league under a floodlit Shoreditch Powerleague 👏
Let’s get into it.
Division 1
We start with the standout fixture on the agenda. Champions Wieden + Kennedy, taking on last years runners up, AMV BBDO 😬
The evening was off to a rocky start for Wieden + Kennedy, having to strut down from their beloved pitch 12. And maybe these additional steps affected their first-half performance with only a goal separating the teams going into the break. Ollie Pym’s side decided to swap heels for boots in the second half and dialled up the heat. With a crusade of goals giving them the 14-4 win 👠
With AMV BBDO captain, Kieran Sadler, stating “they’re a different class and should be in their own league”. Posing the question to agencies across the land - can you beat them?
Sadly R/GA couldn’t field a team and decided to refrain from asking the ref for support this week, giving BBH London their best result of the season 🥳
In the last game of the division, we saw adam&eveDDB vs Saatchi & Saatchi. With ‘stand’-in Arthur McCormick in net to help his old club out. A decision captain Nicholas Wilkie may regret having it only taken Arthur close to 30 seconds to slip on his backside. Luckily, help soon arrived and Arthur was relieved of his duties. Relief all around ⛸
On to the clash. And a tight one it was. adam&eveDDB started stronger, edging ahead but the teams couldn’t be separated going into the break. The second half was even tastier with Saatchi & Saatchi coming from a goal behind to open up a 2 goal lead. A controversial penalty decision allowed adam&eveDDB back in the fixture, hunting down a final goal that eventually escaped them. With Richard Bailey asking for a substitute from any and every bystander, a stand-in keeper and Nicholas Wilkie tweaking a hamstring, questions could be asked over the depth of this year's adam&eveDDB side 🤕
Division 2
Arthur McCormick's Anomaly side seems like a good place to pick this up, after offering absolutely no help to adam&eveDDB. In a tight clash against Ogilvy UK. Possibly the tightest clash we’ve ever seen in Secta history, giving us our first-ever draw. A vast improvement from their 3-0 loss last season. The McCormick masterclass marches forward 📈
Havas London continue their 100% record with some good fortune as Droga5 failed to field a team.
The final fixture of the division saw McCann London take on We Are Social. A strong start from McCann London saw them open up a 6-2 lead going into the half-time break. Could Kelly Macbeth Mackay's second-half specialists do the unthinkable? A series of goals brought them back into contention, however, JJ Bender's leadership steadied the ship and secured a 10-7 victory.
Until next time,
Secta 💪
