We back baby!
Summer is over and the Autumn league is here π
After a few weeks to allow teams to rest, recover and even get married, it was a pleasure to welcome 12 teams back to into the fold π₯³
How goes it?
Division 1
With last season's title decided on the final day, separated only by goal difference every point counts out here.
Saatchi & Saatchi squeezed into Division 1 and were rewarded for it with a clash against reigning champions, Wieden + Kennedy. A tight affair, with Ollie Pym's squad edging it with a 9-6 victory. It appears Saatchi & Saatchi captain, Alexander Boden, has used the break to implement a vigorous training regime as his team offered a vast improvement compared to last seasons 15-4 loss in the fixture π
Next up we had AMV BBDO, left in the hands of Matt Henry, as captain, Kieran Sadler, decided to extend the season break and head off to Greece. Could this additional weekβs break be an unfair advantage? Time will tell β°
As proved last season, Matt Henryβs hands are indeed very safe, securing a 9-7 victory against BBH London in a tasty fixture π
The remaining fixture saw R/GA take on adam&eveDDB. With a last-minute dropout, R/GA drew on the refereeβs goalkeeping skills, or lack of, to field a team. The result? 11-2 to adam&eveDDB. Maybe theyβll think twice next time π¬
Division 2
With 2 new entrants to the league, we wish a warm welcome to Havas London and We Are Social, captained by Diogo Abrantes & Kelly Macbeth Mackay respectively.
The opening game saw Havas London take on an Ogilvy UK side who were unfortunate to drop into Division 2 on the final day of the Summer League. Havas London arrived with a big squad that was too strong for Ogilvy UK on the night, despite Jason Hounsell's efforts to keep them in the tie with an impressive 6 goals. Havas London 17 - 11 Ogilvy UK.
Elsewhere We Are Social took on Droga5, who wasted no time welcoming the new entrants to the league. Droga5 started strongly firing a series of goals in quick succession giving them a 9-1 lead going into the half-time break. Eyebrows raised, with concerns from We Are Social that they've got 9 more weeks of this π¬ A half-time rollicking from captain, Kelly Macbeth Mackay and astute tactical changes seemed to do the trick. We Are Social came out of the blocks firing and chased down the 8 goal lead with goals, goals and more goals from striker Jess Amory, placing them within touching distance. However, strong game management from the Droga5 team saw them through, securing a 13-10 victory.
Last and by no means least we have McCann London against Anomaly, with only 3 points separating the sides last season.
Anomaly, under the new leadership of fresh transfer from adam&eveDDB, Arthur McCormick wasn't able to secure the result he yearned for. Whilst senior management might be considering sending him back, we can assure you it was a strong performance which McCann London just edged 11-10.
Until next week,
Secta.
