MW14 - SUMMER LEAGUE - FOOTBALL
In the penultimate week of the Advertising League, we were blessed with supportive cheerleaders and super subs 🦹♂️
The highlights 📸
We Are Social vs. The Mill
We Are Social were keen to get out there this week after a 3-week hiatus from the game, reflected in their strong 8-player line-up. The Mill, on the other hand, were only with 3 but thankfully the ever-kind We Are Social lent them some players 👏
Despite being injured, captain Gandhi was still on the sidelines to cheer her side on - what a leader on and off the pitch 🙌
It was The Mill who made the stronger start with slick interplay and some strong finishes.
At this moment, Ardel may regret lending half of their squad to The Mill. However, super sub Seun was to the rescue, reviving We Are Social with a series of sublime solo goals. Although it was the impact they needed to get back into the game, it wasn’t enough to secure the W on this occasion.
AKQA vs. VMLY&R
AKQA returned with their full squad, including the ever-popular cheerleaders and even a photographer 💃
This AKQA performance was epitomised by key player and captain Elliott, leading by example with a strong press and aggressive defending.
AKQA were ahead at the break after a well-rounded first half. VMLY&R fought hard to get back into the tie in the second half but had no such luck due to AKQA’s impressive number 1, Calloo 🧤
Not only did Calloo keep his side safe between the sticks, but when unleashed on the field he bossed the game with some wonderful solo goals.
It’s a win that puts AKQA hot on the heels of 3rd place Anomaly with one game left to play.
Wieden + Kennedy vs. Saatchi & Saatchi
As ever, Wieden + Kennedy looked strong in possession and scored some silky goals giving them a comfortable lead going into the half-time break.
Saatchi needed something to change and called upon super sub Taiwo to give them a boost at the break. Although making a notable impact it wasn't enough to stop a relentless Wieden + Kennedy side. Like many before them, the constant press and ever-fluid movement proved too much for Saatchi.
It’s all Wieden + Kennedy can do this season. They’ll be hoping The Mill can do a job over McCann London on Monday.
Scores on the doors 🚪
The Mill 9-9 We Are Social
Wieden + Kennedy 19-9 Saatchi & Saatchi
AKQA 13 - 3 VMLY&R
That’s all for now.
Until next week,
Secta.
