What a season 🏆
In the words of Ollie Pym, “back to back baby”.
A massive congratulations to this impressive Wieden + Kennedy team, deserved winners of the advertising 5-a-side league for the 2nd season running 🎉
The title was wrapped up a few week’s ago and all that had to be done was lift the trophy. Well, so it seems because they certainly forgot to turn up for their final game of the season against R/GA 😬
In a series of shock events, a) R/GA turned up for a game and b) showcased exactly why they were in Division 1 by beating the newly crowned champions. Motivated by the false information from captain Laing, that a victory would keep them up. Unfortunately, their fate had already been sealed and despite a valiant performance, it was mathematically impossible for them to stay up.
But wow, this Wieden + Kennedy team 🤯
A well-oiled machine front to back 🧴
El Capitan - Ollie Pym. This man leads from the front. Wieden's without fail, week in, week out, get a side together. I know what you’re thinking, the bar must be pretty low but with the rise of Covid, fair-weather players (Wilkie 👀) and poor organisation it’s no easy task to get 5 players together on a Monday night, especially 5 that can kick a football. Without this man, they wouldn't know their a** from their elbow. That is a testament to his communication and organisation on and off the pitch. If you ever want to face this side, it’s without this man. "No Pym, no-win" is the saying for a reason.
The Finisher - Brian Ritter. On more than one occasion this man has been compared to Thomas Müller and rightly so. This man is a goal-scoring machine. You can always rely on Ritter to grab a goal.
The Engine - Unknown. This is our player of the season but for legal reasons previously mentioned, cannot be named online. If there was such a thing as a box to box midfielder in 5-a-side, this guy would be it. He’s everywhere. Scoring goals, blocking goals, saving goals. Is there anything this man can’t do? I mean, other than be open and honest with his other 5-a-side team 🤐
The Protector - William Smith. William has worked himself into the Wieden’s team after Newby’s transfer to BBH London and has hit the ground running. You’ll often find William at the back protecting the goal but can also be seen picking out acute passes and scoring goals.
The All-rounder - Adam Hunt. A staple in this Wieden + Kennedy team. You’ll see him using either foot, finishing well and supporting his side all over the pitch.
What a season. What a team. Is there any agency in London that can knock Wieden + Kennedy off of the top?
As you can see from the table R/GA & Saatchi & Saatchi have been relegated into Division 2.
